Signs Your Unit Needs a Check Up

For many homeowners, their HVAC unit is not always on their mind, unless something is wrong with it. Even then, there are many who may not notice the warning signs that their unit is giving them, and may even be surprised when it eventually breaks down. Inadequate Heating or Cooling

A top sign that there is something wrong with your unit is that it isn't heating or cooling like it used to. There can be a variety of causes for this, some of which are more serious than others. However, whether it's due to your motor starting to go out, or simply that you need a new air filter, catching this issue quickly and addressing it can help not only improve the comfort of your home but add length to the life of your unit.

A High Energy Bill

Another sign that you need to get your unit checked is that your energy bills are higher than usual. When your HVAC unit is struggling to heat or cool your home properly, this means that it will usually have to work a lot harder. When it works harder, that means it's also using up more energy. If you've noticed a jump in your energy bills a problem with your unit could be to blame.

Strange Noises or Smells

If you've been hearing clanging or knocking noises when your unit kicks on or shuts off, take note, because it could be that your unit needs fixing. While some noises may be normal when it is starting or ending a heating or cooling cycle, new noises could mean that something isn't working properly. This can be true when it comes to smells, as well. If you smell burning or gas odors, your unit could have a leak, or something could be off with the motor. These kinds of issues can at times become dangerous quickly, so getting it inspected can be important.

A lot of homeowners don't think about their HVAC unit too much until they have a serious issue with it, or it breaks down. What they may not realize, though, is that their unit will often provide many signs that something is amiss. By taking note of any changes in your HVAC unit's function, you can help stop small problems before they turn into large ones, and save yourself some trouble in the process.

Electrical-Related Fire Safety at Home

From time to time, we hear from the news that there is a fire. The most common cause of such incident is due to electrical means. Left cell phone charger plugged, damaged electrical wirings, electrical overload to name a few.

How can we avoid electrical-related fire? Here are some things that we can do to avoid this untoward incident:

Electrical Devices
Turn off any electrical appliances like heaters, conditioners, and ovens when not in use especially if you are leaving your home.
Ensure that devices that generate heat must have proper spaces all around for proper ventilation.
Check regularly the wires, plugs, switches. Replace if found damaged.

Cords and Electrical Outlets
Never place cords or extension cords under carpet.
Fully unwind cords to avoid.
Do not overload electrical outlets by plugging too many plugs.
If found any sign of damage, replace immediately.

Lights
Use the proper lighting fixtures for each area at home. Using the wrong type can cause a fire. LED lights produce less heat than CFLs. Speaking of LED light, do you know when and how it was invented? Check it HERE and see how electricity including the discovery of LED light was.

Keep attention on dim, flickering or surging lights. This should be checked and replace immediately.
If heating of switches is observed, turn them off.

Aside from the above-mentioned, prevention is the best way to avoid electrical-related fire. Never attempt do-it-yourself electrical work for it will not only cause a fire but electrocution too.
