Few Things For Kids To Do During Community Quarantine

During the community quarantine, either ECQ, MECQ, or GCQ, kids are still advised to stay at home for their safety. However, they may get bored staying at home for long period of time.

How to kill their boredom?

There are several ways to keep your kids busy during the community quarantine.

Here are some of the things we did at home to make our Little Matthew busy.

Drawing
Eversince Matthew learn how to handle pen, he loves to draw.

You can level up their artistic skills through digital drawing. This will let use their creativity while enjoying their gadget time.

Instead of paper and pencil, stylus or mouse is used to draw with a computer or tablet. All you need is to have the software needed and an extra storage. Check the Rakuten site for examples of hard drives that will be dedicated to the digital drawing finished products.

Cooking or Baking
We encourage him to work in the kitchen too. Easy dishes like scrambled eggs or their favorite meal can be a good start for them.

For baking, simple cookies or chocolate crinkles may be a fun-filled activity for them.

Of course, you need to remind that they can only cook if you are with them to avoid unnecessary incidents.

Gardening
Like once said by Senator Cynthia Villar, this is the best time to introduce agriculture to our kids. We can do this by urban gardening.

Letting them doing the simple soil cultivation or watering will help a lot. You can explain the importance of gardening.

It is also the best time for them to gain more knowledge about plants. How they grow, what they need, and other things about plants.

Crafts and DIYs
Since we are into DIYs and other crafting, influencing Matthew with these passions is a good option.

We teach him how to crochet. This will not only let them gain new skills but also help them increase their patience and creativity. Crocheting also helps stimulate brain.

You can also introduce them into the Rhinestone Art.

Doing Household Chores
Letting kids help in household chores is another way to divert their attention. The simple sweeping of the floor, removing dust from picture frames, of just doing the vacuum of carpets and sofa will do.

There are still other ways to keep your kids busy during the community quarantine. Can you share other ideas?

Benefits of Pre-K Programs

Families with young children are eager to set their little ones up for bright and happy futures. Data shows that children who attend pre-kindergarten programs experience greater success in academics, and gain life skills that help them well into adulthood. Research-based programs can provide the type of pre-K Tampa children need.

Academic Readiness

Children who attend pre-k programs are generally better prepared for learning. They demonstrate significant gains in print awareness, math and vocabulary, all of which build the foundation for future success in school.

Closing the Gaps
While all children can benefit from pre-k, it is especially beneficial to disadvantaged students and to English language learners. These children gain exposure to literacy-rich environments, a diverse group of friends, and opportunities to engage in music, visual arts, and creative play. This helps close the learning gaps between them and their economically advantaged peers.

Social Skill Development
Students in pre-k programs have opportunities to share and cooperate with others. They learn to resolve conflicts and express their feelings in age-appropriate ways under the guidance of trained and qualified teachers. Social-emotional skill development is essential for future success in school and for building healthy and lasting friendships.

Long-Term Success
Studies show that the long-term benefits of preschool and pre-k programs go far beyond academics. Children who attend pre-k are more likely to finish high school and tend to have better employment prospects as adults. They are less likely to commit violent crimes than peers who did not attend pre-k, and they experience greater economic stability.

A well-rounded, nurturing pre-k program benefits children from all backgrounds, both in the short term and in the future. Early exposure to academics and peer groups sets them up for greater success in reading and math, and in life. it is a worthwhile investment of time for parents and their children.

Teaching Kids the Responsibility with QUBO

A few months ago Mommy received a package from Friso. Aside from the product, another box was included in the package - a QUBO kit.
Qubo, qubo.ph, genovese basil

The kit contains a paper pouch of fertilized soil, a small pouch of stone grits, a mini glass bottle of organic fertilizer, a tiny glass bottle containing the Genovese Basil seeds, and a small pot made of coconut husk.

I told our Matthew gwapito to do the planting and it will be his task to take care of it as the plant grows.

With this, it is not only teaching him to do the proper way of planting but also let him know the word RESPONSIBILITY.

Let Matthew teach you how to plant using QUBO kit with this short video.

Qubo, qubo.ph, genovese basil

Once there are already four leaves appeared, put about 2-3 pieces of organic fertilizer once a month.

After two months, here is the Genovese Basil.

Matthew and I were planning to transfer some of the seedlings into a larger pot.

If you are interested to have your own plant from QUBO, you can visit their website at https://www.quboph.com/. There are other plants that you can choose aside from the Genovese basil.

Have you tried planting using QUBO kits?

Baby Toys:Baby Strollers Are The Safest Products In The Baby World

In the journey of the baby from cradle to crib, he/she is often greeted by a Rocking chair. It plays an important role in the nurturing of buddies. That's the reason many pediatricians recommend this amazing furniture piece for nurseries. So, while ordering one, take in to account the following factors which make your investment fruitful.

Baby Strollers, Strollers, Baby Rockers, toys

Seat & Comfort
As Rocking chairs are intended to provide a suitable seating place, choose the one which has supportive attributes.

Parents/Caretakers need to hold the baby in the rocking chair until he/she got adjusted to it. Wide arm rests help parents to rest their hands on them while holding their loved ones. And also the rocker should offer back support as well as head support which enables the baby to shift positions. The seat padding material should be skin-friendly and soft.

So, the different kinds of baby rockers should be comfortable to both baby and parent/caretaker.

Frame
The frame should be sturdy as it needs to support the baby. Generally, the frame is made of metal or wood. Wooden ones are too heavy for the baby's capacity. Frames made of metals are good to use. They are weightless and attractive. There should be blunt edges and parts to avoid any injuries. The frame determines the bounce rate and portability of the rocker. To save space, choose a rocker which can be folded and stored, when not in use.

To make it fit for outdoors, choose the one which is painted with a weather-resistant finish.

Features
Contemporary Rockers come with variousfeatures.

Thematic Rockers are widely purchased furniture. Cartoon themed or car themed Rockers are eye-catching.

To soothe the baby, manufacturers are coming with inbuilt music players where mothers can play rhymes and pleasant music to calm down their little ones.

Vibrating rockers can drift the baby to sleep and avoid sleepless nights to parents. The gentle vibrations provide more comfort to the baby.

To entertain the baby, choose a rocker with colorful lights but make sure that the lighting will not annoy the baby.

To cut costs, look for a rocker which can be converted to a chair. The bottom part of the rocker has to be changed in order to transform the nature of the rocker.

Shoppers can also find electric rockers which can run on battery power or plug-in power.

Maintenance
Babyhood witness diaper overflow and drools. Many parents find it difficult to clean the padding material. Choose the one which is washable and can absorb the wetness from the baby's skin as it leads to rashes.

Safety
The safety is the important thing which has to be considered. The rocker should comply with the safety standards of the country. Generally, they will be bouncing all the time. So, look for the one which is coupled with secure straps. The height and the weight of the baby have their say in the selection of the rocker. Choose a mat for a baby rocker to avoid accidents on slippery surfaces and also it should be placed in a flat area. Use it in accessible areas where everyone in the family can monitor the baby's activity. Place it away from hazardous areas. By referring manuals, select a Baby rocking chair which matches the profile of the baby.

Things To Do This Summer for Kids

Matthew is officially in the vacation mode since their moving-up held on the first week of April. Though he already had a week-long vacation in Nueva Ecija, this is not yet enough for him to keep from being bored staying at home. Gusto pa nga mag-extend ng bakasyon kaso walang magbabantay. Mama and Papa go to work too.

With this, Mommy is looking for something to keep him busy at home. Printing coloring pages, downloading e-books for kids are just some.

Here are other suggestions that will help kill kid’s boredom at home.

Summer lessons
This season, there are many sports clinic offered. Basketball, swimming, martial arts are some of the common physical activities that kids may enroll.

Aside from sports, there are also art lessons like singing, playing instruments and dancing.

Advanced lessons
Though it is time for kid’s mind to take a rest from stressful school activities, having advance studies can help their mind to keep on working. Para kapag start na ulit ng school, their minds are still in condition.

This year, we wanted to improve Matthew’s penmanship. We are leaving writing tasks for him. Mommy is also looking for instructional materials to cursive writing.

Out of town
The best way to treat kids this summer is having an out of town trip. Beaches and resorts will be great but be ready for the bulk numbers of people having the summer escapades.

Going to other recreational sites like the zoo and themed parks are also a great place to visit.

Learning crafts
Learning new things is another nice way to keep kids away from being bored. Without any bias, crocheting is good. It helps improve your mind, body and mood. Aside from this, kids will have an opportunity to earn few bucks this summer.

Summer break is really a great time for many things while in another part of the globe, spring is the best time to deal with different activities. Check on https://www.alwaysforme.com/spring-break-survey the different activities for spring and it might be applied this summer too.

What are the other activities to do this summer?

Tips In Case of Kid's Lost at the Mall

Source: Flicker

When we visited SM Baliwag two weeks ago and something happened. Matthew got lost on our sight while we are looking for something to buy.

At first we let him run away from us since he used to do this every time we go to the mall. After a few minutes, he will return. But that doesn't happen, he didn’t go back. Mommy and I started to look for him. We go on separate ways to make the search faster. I am afraid that he might go upstairs using the escalator.

How To Calm Active Kids?

Kids at toddler stage are always full of stored energy making them hyperactive.

Matthew is used known to be hyperactive not only at home but in school as well. Sometime, this gave an impression to others of being makulit especially in school.

Lately, he used to bring home "sad face" not one but last week he got 7 which indicates of misbehavior in class. When Mommy asked him what he did in school, he will just say "Nagkulit po kasi ako." See, at an early age, the word makulit is already pinned in his mind and uses this as reason why his teacher gave him "sad face".

Being hyperactive, there are times I am thinking that he might have an ADHD or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. As I research about this I conclude that he doesn't have it. He even possess the opposites of all the symptoms like disorganized, distracted, and forgetful. He doesn’t have any problem in doing his homework.

Familoop Safeguard on Monitoring Kid's Online Activities

At the age of 5, my son can actually navigate his Mom’s tablet without any hassle. He can also go online and watch YouTube on Smart TV. Just like the other day, he was trying to download one of the apps that I just deleted. As early as now, I am worried that few years more, he can already browse the internet and might encounter some sites that are not suitable for his age.

Internet is a great resource for our kids. With just one click, they can get the answers to their assignments. They can read encyclopedia and other books online. There are also online tutorials and classes available nowadays.

Though is it considered a big help in mental development, dangers are still behind this powerful technology. Cyberbullying and porn sites are just two of the hazards that a kid may encounter as they click the mouse.

One dilemma of parents about internet is on how to protect the kids against the risk of the internet. For a parent that works full-time, like me, sitting beside them while doing their research and working in front of the computer or other gadgets is not the best way to take in control. What if you are not around?

Another way to protect them from the possible online harm is to have protection tools. Familoop Safeguard is one of these that a smart parent may consider.

How does it work?
Familoop-parental control is a software that will give a snapshot of kids’ activities, friends, interests, and intents. It has a capacity to identify online threats like chatting with strangers and cyberbullying. Blocking unsafe contents and search results, social networking controls, child locator, communication control, game and apps management, and actionable insights are just some of the features of this tool.

Getting Ready for School

Ready for school
It’s Monday again! I hope you enjoyed your weekend.

Aside from the first day of the week, it is Matthew’s first day in school too. He is officially Kinder-2, another school year for him. The last step towards grade school. With his eagerness, I know he will learn more this year.

Most kids are excited about going back to school but to some parents, it is a difficult task.

Some parents experience problems waking-up kids to prepare for school. Glad for us that we didn’t encounter any problem with Little Bossing.

How we do that? Here are some tips.

Let them enjoy with limitations.
Since vacation time, we still allow him to enjoy it. We let him watch his favorite clips on TV via YouTube, draw his favorite character and superhero, play outside in the afternoon.

But all of these have limitations too.

As agreement, he needs to behave nice at home. If he breaks the rule, all of these will be limited for the next day or until he become nice again.

Just like Mommy shared, the rule of punishment is better than the reward system because this will let them realize their mistakes.

How To Encourage Your Kids To Draw

From the Little Prince (Elephant ate by Boa)
Since the age of three, he started to draw. There are times I cannot figure out what are in his paper pads until he claims it to be cars, trees, flowers, and even his favorite super heroes like Iron Man and Spider Man.

Naalala ko tuloy ang “The Little Prince”. A kid draws something and asks adults what it is. All replied it was a hat. But the kid told then it was a boa constrictor that ate an elephant.

With this here are some tips I can share on how to develop your kid’s ability to draw based from own experience.

Introduce at young age.
Learning at young age is a good option. This will help them develop their grip on writing instruments.

As early as age of two, we introduced pen and papers to Matt. Also, one of her Ninangs send a Mega Sketchers where he started to develop his drawing skills.

Wordless Wednesday: No More Matthew Jumping on the Bed

“I think that the best thing we can do for our children is to
allow them to do things for themselves, allow them to be strong,
allow them to experience life on their own terms,
allow them to take the subway...
let them be better people,
let them believe more in themselves.”

“Momless” Days for Matt and I

Last week, Mommy had a 3-day seminar in KL. On these days, I was the Mom and Dad for our Little Bossing which became a great father-and-son bonding. Will it be the same aso’t pusa for the two of us or it will be different?

On the first day, as expected, Matt is hyperactive. When I arrived home, he was playing  with one of our neighbors. He immediately asked me where's Mommy after seeing I was alone in the car. I told him she was in KL and asked him to behave while she was not around Good that he obeyed everything I asked him to do. Unlike when Mommy’s around, hyper talaga. Just like what his Ate Jeni said “Ganyan lang naman po sya kapag anjan ang Mommy nya.”

When to Watch Movie at Cinema House?

I mentioned in my previous post that Mommy. Matt and I watched the animated movie Frozen on weekends. Matt’s eyes were seriously staring the screen even we are using the netbook lang. Parang alam na alam nya ung pinapanuod nya. Then Mommy said: “Pwede na yata natin isamang manuod ng sine.”  Oo nga, it’s been a long time since we watched movie. “In my life” (Cast: Luis Manzano, Vilma Santos and John Lloyd Cruz) pa yata huling movie na napanuod namin ni Mommy.

Is he really ready to watch movies in cinemas? I read some articles on what is the appropriate age for a kids to watch cinema. Here are some things that we should consider if we are going to bring our kids (3 years-old and below).

Rated SPG Commercials?

Do you think TV ads should be also regulated by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB)? Why did I say this?  Here is the scenario:

The other night, Mommy is crocheting while watching TV then Matt approached. To her surprise, she was slapped by Matt and said: “Walang sa’yo Nicole! Akin lang ang asawa ko!”

Stop The Bottles!

One of the problems encountered by parents is on how are they going to wean their babies not only from breastfeeding but in bottles too. I just noticed that there are some kids that are still on their bottles not only on milk but in some liquids too (juice, chocolate drinks, etc.). Some even at the age of 6 or 7, they cannot sleep if they don’t drink their milk using feeding bottles.

Good for us that we didn’t have difficulties when we stopped Matt in using feeding bottles. In as early as 2 years old and a span of less than a month, he stopped in drinking milk from feeding bottles. He never wake-up in the middle of the night and ask for milk. This might be one of the reason na rin why he didn’t pee at night aside from using cloth diaper.

Yayo of the Day

Last Thursday, we were informed that our remaining leave credits can only be used until the end of November or it will be forfeited. I still have one leave credit so I decided to use it last Saturday (Yes, we have work on Saturdays).

So what to do the whole day staying at home? As usual, kahit bakasyon, I must earn extra by crocheting. But what I am excited about this, it gave me extra bonding time with super kulit Matt by being “Yayo of the Day”! Yayo means male nanny.

Matt is Away for the First Time (An Update)

Just like what I said in my previous post, we are really worried that Matt will be away from us for the first time. We kept on calling Mama and ask how Matt is doing. To our surprise, Mama and Papa told us “Hindi man lang kayo maalala. Hindi nga kayo hinahanap.” Maybe he is, but he looked for us but cannot express what he really means or he is just busy playing with his cousin Gwen who is really fond of him.

Matt is Away for the First Time

Last night BIL told us that he will go home to Nueva Ecija this afternoon. We ask him if he can bring MIL, Matt, and Ate Dianne (his nanny) and we will just follow there on the 31st. He agreed with the plan so we texted Mama that Matt will be with them tonight. They are very happy to hear the news because they will be with Matt for longer time.

At first we are still having doubts and worries especially Mommy if we will continue with the plan since this is the first time he will be away from us for more than a day. I know parents, like us will have the same thinking and worries.
