The Lion King (2019)

It was 1994 when the animated The Lion King movie was released. After twenty-five years, Disney made a remake of the movie, but this time, in real-life action.
the lion king, lion king 2019, lion king, Movie Sharing,

Since we made a promise to our little boy, we watched the film last Sunday.

I must admit, I was excited since I wanted to see if there are changes from the original story.

As the movie goes, I carefully reminisce the scenes and the story. Nothing has changed. Even the soundtracks are still the same – Can You Feel the Love Tonight, Hakuna Matata, Circle of Life and others.

Here is a summary of the story:

Simba admires his father, King Mufasa, the leader of the Pride Lands of Africa. He wanted to be like his father when he grows up and become the king. But behind all the excitement, there is one that is not happy with the arrival of Simba. Scar, Mufasa's brother, who happens to be the former heir to the throne, is doing plans to take the lead.

Scar made connivance with the hyenas to kill Mufasa and put all the blame to Simba. He forced Simba to leave the Pride Land and never return.

Simba collapses in the dessert where Timon (meerkat) and Pumba (warthog) saved him. Simba grew up in the jungle with his friends.

One day, Simba saved his two friends from a hungry lioness, Nala, Simba’s childhood friend.

Nala, escaped from the Pride Land to seek help to save their home. She encouraged Simba to return and take back the throne.

Simba refuses but he was urged by Rafiki. He told Simba that his father’s spirit lives in him. Without a second thought, he runs and returns to Pride Land.

With the help of Simba's friend, he reached the Pride Rock and confronts Scar and saved his mother, Sarabi, from Scar’s attack.

During the fight, Scar, reveals that he saw the same scenario at the edge of the rock where he killed Mufasa. Scar tried to defend himself and blame the hyenas in Mufasa’s death.

With the help of Timon, Pumba, Rafiki, Zazu, Nala and the rest of the lioness, they managed to out thrown the hyenas.

Scar was cornered by Simba. He tries to beg and ask what he can do to forgive him. Simba ordered him to leave the Pride Land and never return.

Scar tries to attack Simba but he was thrown from the top of the rock. He survived but was attacked and killed by hyenas.

Simba became the king and made Nala his queen.

Later in the Pride Rock, Rafiki presented Simba and Nala’s cub to the other animals in the Pride Land.

After watching the movie, our little boy keeps on singing Hakuna Matata. He cannot forget the funny duo of Timon and Pumba.

Movie Sharing: Gifted

Chris Evans starred this movie as Frank living with his niece portrayed by Mckenna Grace as Mary.

Mary does not want to go to school and just continue homeschooling with Frank but the later refuses since he already taught everything to Mary and he wanted Mary to experience socializing with others and gain friends.

At school, Mary got bored over the first grade Math with her teacher Bonnie (Jenny Slate). Bonnie started to give difficult arithmetic questions where Mary answers correctly. After the recess, Bonnie asked the principal to have a walk-in observation of Bonnie’s class. As soon as the principal entered the room, Mary asked her to call Frank because she wanted to go home.

After the class, Bonnie talked to Frank about the incident and told him that Mary is a gifted child. Frank simply replied that he taught Mary about Trachtenberg Method and walked away.

Bonnie do research about the said method and found out that Mary’s mom Diane was a Math genius and working for Millennium Prize problems on the Navier-Stokes Equation before she took her own life. Since then, Frank took the responsibility of caring Mary.

One day on a school bus, Mary saw a bullying incident. She stands up and breaks the nose of the senior student. The principal called Frank to the school and tells him that Mary can get a full ride at the school for the gifted nearby. Frank refuses the offer for he just wants Mary to have a normal childhood. The principal called Evelyn, Frank’s mother.

Evelyn was a rich, bossy Englishwoman who has opposite ideas with Frank. She soon appeared at Frank’s home and met Mary for the first time. She wanted to get Mary and bring her to Boston where Frank disagreed which lead to the court.

In the series of court hearings, the conflict between Frank and Evelyn continue. They found out that Evelyn was disappointed with Diane for being weak in completing the Millenium Prize problem, Frank giving up his professorship at Boston University, and her husband disrupting her career.

Instead of accusing something, Frank simply insist that he wanted Mary to become a normal child, which can be forbidden if she will stay with Evelyn.

In the end, Evelyn wanted to put Mary under foster care near Frank’s house and make her go to school for the gifted. Frank agreed but suspected that Evelyn was still with Mary in the foster family’s home.

Frank rushed to the house and throws a file in the table and tells Evelyn she must see it. Mary runs outside but she was caught by Frank and ask for forgiveness. Mary hugs him and asked not to leave her again.

Evelyn was about to call the attorney but he stopped when she saw the file that it was the complete solution for the Navier-Stokes Equation. This was given to Frank by Diane and asked him to publish only after Evelyn dies. Frank told Evelyn that she can already publish it but will leave Mary alone or else, he will get it back and will stick with Diane’s instruction. In tears, Evelyn takes the deal.

At the end, Mary attended morning classes in the university and the elementary schools in the afternoon.

What I learned from the story is that however bright or genius they are, kids are still kids and they should experience being one.

Movie Sharing: Eddie the Eagle

Rio Olympics has recently ended and in connection to this, I just watched a movie about Winter Olympics – Eddie the Eagle. This is a true to life story of Eddie Edwards, an Olympic Ski Jumper.

Since the age of 10, Eddie wanted to participate in joining the Olympic games. He kept on practicing in various events but fails miserably.

On his teenage years, he gave up joining the Summer Olympics in exchange of skiing in the winter Olympics. Though he is good at it, he was rejected by the British Olympics officials. Because of it, ventures into another event – ski jumping since the country hasn’t participated in this event for 6 decades already.

He went to a training camp in Germany and self-trained. After having success in the 15-meter jump, he was injured on his first try in the 40-meter. Bronson Peary (Hugh Jackman) discouraged him in continuing his becoming Olympic Jumper but Eddie is full of spirit to fulfill his dream.

Eddie knew that Peary was a former Olympic champion and asked him to be his trainer. The 1988 Winter Olympics will start soon and Eddie needs to make just one jump to qualify for the said game. He landed on the 38 meters. However, the British Olympic officials decided to change the rule and need to jump at least 61 meters. This is to avoid Eddie from joining the team.

With full of determination, Eddie decided to continue his training. He landed exactly on 61 meters on the practice. Unfortunately, during the official game, Eddie falls and disqualified. He returned home with a feeling of devastated and decided to work for his father. One day, he receives a letter that his practice jump is a valid one making him eligible for the Winter Olympics.

Eddie talked Peary about the decision but he was discouraged to continue because he will make a complete fool of himself and his country if he continues. Still, with full of determination, Eddie decided to join the Winter Olympics.

He placed last in the 70-meter jump landed on 60.5-meter mark but this sets a new British record. He became famous and was known as “Eddie the Eagle”. He decided to make the 90-meter jump where he never tried before. Though he landed last, again he sets a new British record. He was cheered by millions of spectators around the globe. He was eventually accepted by the British Olympic officials afterward.

Though he didn’t win a medal in the Winter Olympics, he received a heroes welcome as he returned home.

The movie shows us that if you dream of something, always keep the determination on fire and never give-up.

By the way, I like one of the songs played in the movie entitled Jump by Van Halen. This is the song played when Peary made the 90-meter jump. Listening to such song using a nice audio system will definitely make you dance with the music. It is better to use speakon cables to make the audio quality better.

Movie Sharing: Miracles From Heaven

I haven’t shed tears before when until I watched this movie.

This movie was shown a few months ago. I read a lot of good reviews on this one so I decided to have a copy and watch it.

This movie is based on a true-to-life story of a girl who has been diagnosed to have intestinal disorder wherein the entire lower part of the digestive system has been paralyzed and loss its capability to digest food.

Their faith will be tested and will prove that miracles happen in our daily lives without knowing it.

Last Sunday, I finally got a chance to view this movie and here is the synopsis:

Christy and Kevin Beam had three daughters named Abby, Anna, and Adelynn. Their family is very active in the church. But one day, Anna started to threw-up. Her tummy started to swell and every now and then hurts that she cannot bear it.

The couple decided to take her in a hospital. The first doctor said that it was just a lactose intolerance. But they don’t believe it so they asked for a second opinion and keep on searching for the correct diagnosis until one of the doctors told them that Anna is suffering from intestinal motility disorder.

They were also advised to bring Anna to Boston and look for Dr. Nukro. However, they need to have an appointment with Dr. Nurko but months passed, they still got any news about their appointment. This makes Christy decide to fly to Boston and try their luck.

At the hospital, Christy tried talking to the receptionist to give them spot even they did not have any appointment with Dr. Nurko. Unfortunately, the receptionist told her that she was just new on the job and she needs it so she only follows the rules.

After the hospital, Christy and Anna dined in a restaurant and there they meet one fo the waiters named Angela. Angela offered them to take a tour at Boston until Christy received a call from the hospital that they are given a slot for Dr. Nurko.

Anna was given medications but needs to have a check-up every 6 months because the drugs may have adverse effects on Anna.

Christy started to loose her faith and never attended the church again.

In one of their hospital visit, Anna met a new friend named Haley. She was her roommate suffering from bone cancer. Anna told her that she was not afraid to die because of her faith.

Returning to Texas, Anna’s sister Abby asked her if she wanted to climb the old cottonwood tree in their yard. This is the tree that they used to climb before. However, an accident happened when the branch they sit started to crack. Abby asked anna to reach the trunk but she fell inside the 30-ft tree.

After she was rescued, Anna’s condition miraculously changed. Her tummy started to become small and never complain about the pain even she did not take medications.

They went back to Dr. Nurko which won’t believe how it happened to Anna. All he can say is that her nervous system might have been reset after she fell inside the tree.

Christy and Kevin had a conversation with Anna. The kid told the couple that she had talked to God. While inside the tree, she saw herself lying down. She followed a white butterfly to a place where she was alone but felt very safe. She talked asked God if she can stay but it wasn’t her time. She needs to come back and promised to be healed.

Before the end of the film, the Beam Family attended the church where Christy speaks of miracles. However, one fo their churchmates questioned her that is it really true about Anna’s condition. It might just a way to caught attention or publicity.

Suddenly, a man stood and told everyone that it was true. She saw Anna’s condition while in Boston. He also told that before they met Christy and Anna, they don’t have that faith in their hearts. The man was Haley’s father. He also stated that Haley died peacefully because of having faith in her heart.

The movie ended the Beam family eating pizza in the yard.

Truly that miracle happen to us every day without knowing it.

Aside from the story, I love one of the soundtracks of the movie entitled “Collide”. This was being played during Christy and Anna’s flight to Boston.

I guess this song is also great played using digital pianos. Find the yamaha p105 at MF. Do you think the song will play good with this instrument? and Do you think the song is good played in acoustic?

Movie Sharing: The Little Prince

“It is only with the heart that one can see rightly what is essential is invisible to the eye.”

This quotation has been one of the most famous lines that you can get from the novel The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. Actually, this novel became the topic of our entire Values Education Class in my senior year in high school.
Source
I got excited to have a copy of the film when I knew that there is a movie with the same title. At first I thought it was a direct adaptation of the novel but it was not. It was about the girl who befriended an old aviator who wrote the story The Little Prince.

Here is the plot of the story:
The mother of the girl wanted her to enroll in one of the prestigious school, Werth Academy. With so much determination to let her daughter pass the examination, she made a very tight schedule on summer break making small time for leisure.

The daughter started to get distraction when the propeller of the old man’s plane hit their house and creates damages.

One day, while having a study, a paper plane landed on her table. It was the first part of the story about the “little prince”. At first, she had no interest in reading the story until she saw a drawing of a box with three holes where the sheep of the “little prince” is sleeping.
Screenshot: The Aviator and The Little Prince

She gains interest in knowing the complete story. She secretly peeked into the old man’s house and asked the old man to continue telling the story of the aviator who had a plane accident in a desert and encountered a boy who came from a distant asteroid.

The story continues about the boy who encountered different planets with different residents like a king, a businessman, a conceited man and lastly the earth where he met the aviator, the fox, the snake and lots of roses. The little prince is searching about what he believes to be the only rose in the universe – his rose, where he left in his planet under a glass globe to protect it from wind and cold.
Screenshot: The Little Prince and The Fox

On the girl’s birthday, together with the aviator, had a near car accident. When her mother knew about the friendship of the two, she was grounded and was instructed to focus on her studies again. But the girl was very eager to determine the ending of the story and she secretly return to the aviators home. She learned that the little prince sacrificed himself to a venomous snake in order to return to his planet and reunites with his rose. The girl went upset of the ending and regrets meeting the old man.
The girl and the old man

As the summer ends, the old man gets hospitalized. The girl wanted to make an apology by finding the little prince using the aviator’s plane. She landed on an asteroid exclusively for adults who all works for the star-collecting businessman. She found the prince who became an adult and works as a janitor under the name Mr. Prince. The prince forgets all about his past.

The girl then forced the prince to return to his asteroid that us now grown with baobab trees. His rose is still under the glass globe but already died. They saw a rising sun with an image of a rose. From there, the prince went back to a young boy again. The girl flew back to earth with the help of a flock of birds.

The girl and her mother visited the aviator in the hospital where the little girl gave a compilation of the aviator’s complete story of The Little Prince.

The summer ends and the little girl started her school at Werth Academy. She also had a better relationship with her mother and they gaze thru the stars where they heard the laughter of the aviator and the little prince.

The last part of the movie is not derived from the original novel. It is also not stated nor shown if the little girl’s journey to the asteroid of adults is a reality or just a dream. Nevertheless, the movie is great.

Movie Sharing: Burnt

It was already February but I haven’t seen any movies shown in January particularly those in my lists like The Forest, The Boy and Kung Fu Panda 3.

Though I didn’t visit any movie house lately, I was able to see a movie about one of my passion – cooking. The movie is entitled Burnt which starred by Bradley Cooper as Adama Jones, Daniel Bruhl as Tony and Sienna Miller as Helene.

Source: INQ Pop

Here is the plot:

Adam Jones is a former drug user and a perfectionist who disappeared and let himself open 1 million oysters in a bar in New Orleans. After doing oysters, he decided to return to London to regain his reputation and get his third Michelin Star – an indication of how great a chef is.

He went back and ask Tony to take over hotel restaurant. However, Tony doesn’t trust him and he thought that Adam is already dead because he did not appear in their friend’s funeral.

Adam visited another friend, Conti and get attracted to the sous-chef Helene.

He also found his friend Michel where he betrayed in Paris by releasing rats in Michel’s restaurant and reported to the health inspector. In the end, they agreed to work together.

Adam (Screenshot)

In order to convince Tony to his request of having his own restaurant, he invited Simone, a famous restaurant critic, to dine in Tony’s hotel. There, Adam appeared in the kitchen to prove himself. Because of this, Tony’s father decided to renovate the hotel and hire Adam as the head chef in a condition that Adam will undergo a weekly drug test. The hotel was named as Langhams.

Helene gets fired by Conti and worked with Adam. Unfortunately, because of Adam’s too much humiliation in front of the team and becoming physically aggressive to her, Helene decided to quit but Tony convinced her to get back by giving some insights about Adam and she will get respect from Adam.

Helene working in the kitchen (Screenshot)

Adam appeared on a talk show and invited different famous restaurant critic to dine at Langhams where he get great reviews making Langhams as one of London’s must-to-go restaurant.

Helene and Adam working relationship improves when Adam baked a very nice cake on her birthday.

Tony and Adam continues to prepare for the Michelin Star.

Their fried Reece reopens his restaurant and invited Adam to attend the event. He asked Helene to accompany him. On the night of the event, they met Anne Marie ( Jean-Luc’s daughter). Adam and Anne used to date and like Adam, she was also cleaned and sober. Anne wants to hand her father’s knives to Adam.

The next morning, Helene and Adam met at the fish market. On their way to the restaurant, they kissed but interrupted by the drug dealer’s henchmen. Adam handed the fish to Helene and go with the henchmen. The following morning, Helene found him at the kitchen entrance with blood on his face. They planned to send Adam to the hospital but the Michelin critics arrived. Adam stood up and prepare the food. Unfortunately, minutes after the food was served, Tony returned because the soup was too spicy. Michel sabotages the food by adding cayenne pepper as revenge for what Adam did to him in Paris.

With dismay, Adam considers jumping from the Westminster Bridge. Later, he went to Reece’s restaurant drunk and begins weeping. Adam stays there for the night. The next morning, Reece prepared food for him and told him that he admires Adam because he kept on experimenting on his menu.

Adam returned to the restaurant and found that Anne Marie paid the drug dealers. She also handed him his father’s knives.

Tony and Helene found tony at the hotel room. They give a good news that the customer they thought as Michelin reviewers were not even they behaved as like them. With the excitement of getting a chance to get a Michelin star, Adam kissed Tony before leaving Helene and Adam alone.

One of the dishes served to Michelin reviewers (Screenshot)

Adam returned to the kitchen and started listening to Helene and other staff. When the real Michelin reviewers appeared, together with Helene, Adam prepared a superb meal which leads to receiving the third star.

I was amazed on how a “Michelin Star” a big deal in becoming a famous chef in Europe. Just one wrong move can ruin your glory as a famous chef in the area.

This also shows how fun and difficult to work inside the kitchen as the chef, sous-chef, and other members of the team.
