Few weeks ago, we visited a poultry farm due to some complaints regarding the feeds delivered to the farm.

During conversation with the farm owner, I noticed a very familiar plant in front of their office. So I asked one of the farm personels if that plant is really the one I know and it was confirmed, it was a Mulberry plant.

I picked some fruits and eat it. I am not aware that the farm owner saw me eating the berries and asked me, “Marunong ka pala kumain nyan?”.

This plant has been one of my favorites way back to our home town. This was very common in our vicinity because of the Silk Worm Production where leaves are used as food by the worms.

Eight day to go and its Christmas time already. Before its too late, Taiwan Excellence Campaign has some gift suggestions for mothers.

From the press release:

Mothers always know best. They are the heart of the family—comforting, nurturing, and loving each family member. They take pains to create a happy and healthy home, embracing many roles: that of a cook, a nanny, a janitor, a nurse, a driver, a doctor, a teacher.

I Want a Foldable Bicycle

Yesterday, Matt had an educational trip to Laguna area. We left the school at around 6:30am and we need to be at the first destination - Jose Rizal's Home in Calamba, Laguna at around 9:00am. Unfortunately, we arrived the first destination at around 11:30am.

The main reason is TRAFFIC! We were caught in traffic at EDSA. Imagine, just passing the Kamuning fly-over took us about an hour.

With the increase number of vehicles travelling in EDSA, it is time for us to check for alternatives in order to avoid the traffic rush in the metro. One thing I have in mind is taking bicycle. Aside from getting away of the vehicle-congested roads, there are also other benefits that you can get in choosing this alternative.

Healthy Mind and Body - Riding the bicycle is one of the best workouts both cardiovascular and muscle-toning exercise burning more calories and strengthening different muscle groups. This also helps you clear's one head before going to work making you more concentrate on your work.

Christmas Wishlist: A Short Update

Christmas is fast approaching. Have you already completed your gift list or does someone already granted some of your wishlist? If not, you might be included in the naughty list by your Santa Claus. Just kidding.

There are four items in my Christmas Wishlist for this year. All belongs to electronics and gadgets. Last month, I already had one of the items in the list - a new smart phone. Another item in the list will be slashed down this month - the LED TV. Mommy and I already eyed the unit to be purchased soon but we are still considering some things before buying a new television unit.

First, our Christmas Party will be held next week. Who might know, we can bring home a new TV from the raffle draw. Asa mode lang.

Second, I am waiting for my credit card cut-off so it will appear on my statement on January 2015 and will be paid in February 2015. #smartbuying.

Lastly, we haven't decided where it will be placed; on table-top or wall mount.

One thing for sure about this - the new TV will materialized before the year ends.

Lego® Collection from Shell PH

Few months ago, I had my change oil in Shell and got a free Glade Air Freshener. On Wednesday, I am so excited that another promo is happening in Shell. They are giving Lego® Collection for a corresponding purchases including Shell Helix Oil.

The one I Got (Taken from Instagram)
I know Matthew will be happy to see a new car as a reward for his excellent quarterly exam results. Unfortunately, I didn’t handed the said toy to him because of his behavior in class that his teacher reported two days ago.

What would you expect from a 4-year-old boy? Makulit talaga lalo na at mag-isa pa lang siya at wala masaydong kalaro sa bahay. But the reported one is different. I don’t know if Mommy will share it on her Momaye’s Diary blog.

This is not to punish him but Mommy and I would like to let him realize the consequences of such behavior in class.

Why Give Blood to Philippine Red Cross?

Chemist Dad: A Proud Donor (Taken from Instagram)

Last Friday, our company had a Blood Letting Activity assisted by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC). Upon knowing that we will have the said activity, I didn’t hesitate in donating my blood because this will be the first time for me.

Also, donating blood can be a sign of having good health. According to PRC representative during the pre-orientation, not everyone can donate blood. There are others that are willing to give theirs but some are not capable due to some health reasons (hypertension, anemia, etc.)

What are the benefits of blood donation?

Improves overall cardiovascular health.
Blood donation helps reduce the level of iron in the blood reducing the risk of heart disease. Studies showed that chances of heart attack and stroke were also reduced. Furthermore, high amounts of iron in the blood is also linked to some type of cancers.

New Cellphone, Check!

One of the items on my Christmas Wishlist is a new cellphone but I was hesitant to buy a new one since I still have the company phone issued to me two years ago and it works very fine. Just thinking “practicality”.

Until last month, Mommy already convinced me to buy a new. She told me that I need a smartphone, kahit pinakasimple lang, since I need to check on my e-mails regularly which my old cellphone could not provide. At isa pa, it has been almost 8 years the last time I bought a new phone.

While waiting for the salesman to bring my new phone for testing, Mommy is searching for a possible unit to buy on December. I told her, “Kung gusto mo, kumuha ka na din ng bago mong cellphone.”

Unfortunately, the upon testing the unit she picked is not functioning and no other stocks in the store available that time. So I told her, why not to get the same unit I got. Konti na lang naman na ang idadagdag sa price.

Throwback Thrusday: Sleeping Beauty 2

In one of my posts, I shared a sleeping photo of mine captured by one of my college classmates.

Last week, while browsing the photos in my hard disk, I saw another sleeping photo, this time taken by Mommy using her cell-phone.

This shot was taken while having a short nap during our lunch break. Actually, I can easily fall into sleep kahit nakaupo or nakadukdok lang sa table. Sabi nga nila: "Masandal lang ang likod, tulog."

I can't remember if Mommy showed me this photo when I woke-up.

Have you been a victim of sleeping photos too?

Taiwan Excellence: Excellent Lifesyles in the Philippines

Many of us, Filipinos, have a great interest on imported products from American and European Countries believing that such products have a better quality compared to others. On the other hand, when it comes to Asian countries, some give less importance on such products especially the China-made. Many have a great scare due to the past issues of melamine and heavy metal contamination (lead and mercury for example).

To reduce such scare, Taiwan launches a campaign here in our country named as “Taiwan Excellence” organized by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Bureau of Foreign Trade, R.O.C. The aim of this project is to bring around 175 products of 56 top quality brands of Taiwan to the local market. The products cover the field of information and communication technologies, home and living, and sports like Acer, Asus, BenQ, Draytek, HCG, KingCom, KW Trio, Kymco, MSI, Silicon Power, Sym, Transcend, and others.

The Advantages of Reward Cards

I used to keep membership cards of different establishments where we visit regularly. What makes me keep such cards in my wallet? Of course, the privileges and the freebies for the cardholders. Though there are other cards available, I used to decline some of them because of annual membership fees. Also, we rarely visit some of those establishments.

Here are the cards I keep in my wallet:

BDO Rewards Card – I earned points from banking as well as purchases in SM and other partner establishments like Toy Kingdom, Watson, Ace Hardware. Now, even Waltermart Supermarket accepts the said card. Each point is equivalent to one peso and these points can be used to pay on your purchases.

Jollibee Happy Plus Card – Our company issued me a StarCard from Caltex. Because of this, I avail the Happy Plus Card of Jollibee. You can earn points by fueling up at Caltex. Every 50-peso purchase will give you 1 point. Like BDO Rewards, every point is equivalent to 1 peso where you can use as payment for any food items at Jollibee and its affiliates (Mang Inasal, Chowking, Greenwich and Red Ribbon).

Accidental Tour on Calamba Baywalk

On my visit at the house of  Rizal’s, I accidentally landed on Calamba Baywalk. I was looking for a parking area near the Rizal’s house ng medyo nakaramdam ng tawag ng kalikasan. I kept on driving in search for a gasoline station. I also saw a sign board that the same road leads to this place. I got excited and since the Rizal’s house is still close that time, I decided to take a short look of the Baywalk.

I was excited as I go near the place because of the full view of Mt. Makiling. But when I reached the place, my first reaction is: “Eto na ba yun? Parang napabayaan na ang lugar.” Most of the lights in the post are already broken, vandalism is just a common thing on the walls and posts, and the water in the lake is already black.

The house is on the opposite side of this Street Mark.
The house is located at the corner of J.P. Rizal and Mercado Street. One landmark near the place is the very huge clay pot with the names of different Baranggays of Calamba.

The house is open to public free of charge (you can leave some donation) from 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Thursday. You just have sign in the huge visitor's logbook.

I cooked pan-grilled liempo and buttered corn for our lunch. After a short rest from lunch, time to work in the kitchen again.

First, I made a supposed-to-be velvet cupcakes but didn’t came out as what is expected. Sabi nga ni Mommy:Magconcetrate ka na lang sa cheesecakes and cookies.” I have to agree. I already made several attempts in making cupcakes but I cannot get the perfect mixture.

As parents we are still responsible to engage them into some physical activities.

Bakit ako kaagad ang lalapitan kapag may problem?
Bakit lahat na lang ng tanong ako ang dapat may sagot?

On the first day, as expected, Matt is hyperactive. When I arrived home, he was playing  with one of our neighbors. He immediately asked me where's Mommy after seeing I was alone in the car. I told him she was in KL and asked him to behave while she was not around Good that he obeyed everything I asked him to do. Unlike when Mommy’s around, hyper talaga. Imarflex 3-in-1 Convection and Rotisserie Oven Review

As promised, here is my review for the Father’s day gift and long-wished oven.

When I saw this oven in the appliance center, I told Mommy that we are going to get this one. Why? The stainless steel design or casing is very nice and elegant for a price bit higher compared to the one I saw in the internet.

Imarflex Oven with stainless steel exterior

The oven is very spacious having a 30-liter capacity. You can place two layers of pan at the same time. Also, you can roast whole chicken. Haven't tried though.

You can position the trays at different levels

The temperature setting ranges from 100-250ºC. However, the dial doesn't have enough graduation for setting the temperature. For example, I am using 175 ºC, I will just place the dial in the middle of 150 and 200 and you are not sure if you are hitting the correct setting.

With the dial-type function selector, you can choose what heating rod will work, top, bottom or both. The heating rod automatically shuts off upon reaching the desired temperature. There is also an option for the blower to convert the unit into a convection oven (ideal for baking) or turbo broiler (for roasting). Speaking of roasting, there is a rotisserie function. Skewer is included in the package.

It has a self timer where you can set up to 60-minutes and has a signal once cooking time set is finished.

Dial-type selector for temperature, function and timer

With a tampered clear glass door and interior lighting, you can check while baking without opening the unit.

Cleaning is not a problem. It has a removable crumble pan (the lowest tray in the photo below) that catches drippings and other materials that might spills while cooking or baking. Wiping any dirt inside is easy since the interior cavity is coated with crystalline Teflex.

Brand: Imarflex
Model: IT-300CRS
Capacity: 30L
Price: 4995PhP

Next to review is the Hand Mixer.

Tip from the salesperson: Do not force to turn the timer back to zero when baking is already done. Just turn the selector "OFF", unplug the unit and just let the timer run. This is the common cause of timer dial breakdown.

No More Plastics in Bulacan…Is This Happening?

In my post on banning the use of plastics in entire Bulacan, I was happy because this will make a great impact in our environment. Let us see what happened more than a year after I posted about this or should I say implementation of the said provincial ordinance.

The soon I read and saw the notices around our area, I asked our suking vegetable stall in Sta. Maria if they are aware with the new ordinance and the vendor just answered: “Oo, pero madami pa kaming plastic.” Given that they are just consuming their stocks since the rules were just came out for implementation. However, until now, they are still using plastics as packaging and this is in every stall in the market. Are their stocks really that much to use plastic until now?

The Old Grandfather & The Grandson

I was searching for a quotations about a grandfather and a grandson for my Captured Moment's "Family Day Sunday" contribution on the other blog when I read this very heart-pounding story:

The Old Grandfather and His Grandson
Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm

Once upon a time there was a very, very old man. His eyes had grown dim, his ears deaf, and his knees shook. When he sat at the table, he could scarcely hold a spoon. He spilled soup on the tablecloth, and, beside that, some of his soup would run back out of his mouth.

Lemon Grass or Citronella?

One mean to drive insects away is by planting herbal plants at home and one of the famous is citronella.

Mommy and I were discussing that we can make our own insect sprays from these plants by extracting its oil. Naalala ko tuloy bigla ang undergraduate thesis ko. I extracted the active components from the roots of Duranta plant and use this to test it it has anti-tumor properties.

The question is, where will I get the citronella plant? Then I searched the net on how it looks like. It is just like a lemon grass or tanglad. So I searched on what are the differences between the two.
