Many of us, Filipinos, have a great
interest on imported products from American and European Countries believing
that such products have a better quality compared to others. On the other hand,
when it comes to Asian countries, some give less importance on such products
especially the China-made. Many have a great scare due to the past issues of
melamine and heavy metal contamination (lead and mercury for example).
To reduce such scare, Taiwan launches a campaign here in our country named as “Taiwan Excellence” organized by the
Ministry of Economic Affairs, Bureau of Foreign Trade, R.O.C. The aim of this
project is to bring around 175 products of 56 top quality brands of Taiwan to
the local market. The products cover the field of information and communication technologies, home and living, and sports like Acer, Asus, BenQ,
Draytek, HCG, KingCom, KW Trio, Kymco, MSI, Silicon Power, Sym, Transcend, and
others.
Now that I am planning to
have a new TV set, this campaign might be useful and who knows, I will purchase
one from Taiwan-made products.
From the Press Release Kit:
Promoting the Best of Taiwan
with the Seal of Excellence
Globalization expands people’s shopping choices. Today, people, including
Filipinos, have access to more goods and services from different countries.
However, there are no guarantees that imported products are of high quality. To
address this, Taiwan, through its Bureau of Foreign Trade of Taiwan (BOFT) and
Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), has organized and
implemented a campaign to help Filipino consumers identify the best from the
rest.
Taiwan Excellence is a campaign that recognizes high-quality Taiwanese
brands, guaranteeing their superior quality and value. To qualify for these
awards, the products go through a rigorous screening process to ensure that
they are of the highest standard and can proudly represent the unique and
innovative culture of Taiwan.
The History of
Taiwan Excellence
The Taiwan Excellence campaign started as part of the Ministry of
Economic Affair’s (MOEA) 5 year plan in the 1980’s to raise Taiwan’s international
competitiveness by supporting its local brands. Under the Image Enhancement
Plan, the Taiwan Excellence Award campaign was established in 1992. The “Taiwan Excellence” was awarded to
products based on R&D, design, quality, and marketing efforts. If selected,
the brands and products were allowed to use the Taiwan Excellence Seal locally
and internationally.
The Awarding
Process
All Taiwan based brands are eligible to be part of the campaign. Product categories include consumer and
business IT, fashion, arts and culture, sports, education, transportation, and
others.
Each product is scored based on its R&D, design, quality, and
marketing by an international panel of judges. Each product must score evenly
in all four categories. After careful evaluation, those selected are allowed to
carry the Taiwan Excellence Seal.
From among the selected products, the judges choose those who deserve the
Silver and Gold Award recognition. They
will select thirty from the original winners, with only ten to be given the
Gold Award, the highest recognition under the campaign, while the remaining
finalists will be given the Silver Award.
In 2014, the campaign was introduced to the Philippines for the first
time to benefit Filipino consumers who purchase products from Taiwan. The campaign
carried the theme “Excellent Lifestyle” not just to showcase the 56 excellent
brands under Taiwan Excellence, but to also let Filipinos recognize how these
products enable them to enjoy an excellent lifestyle. Some of the brands under
the campaign include Acer, Asus, HTC, Tatung, and BenQ.
Today, the Taiwan Excellence Award is helping Filipinos distinguish the
best Taiwan-made products, encouraging consumers to make educated purchases. In
addition, these innovative products help users simplify everyday tasks, whether
for work or at home. Definitely, this campaign will allow Filipinos to enjoy
their shopping experience and discover the best that Taiwan has to offer.
