Kuya Matthew's First Stage of Adolescence

A week ago, our Kuya Matthew had his circumcision.

He prepared for that day. He watches videos and reads information about circumcision. Although this is not recommended especially for kids who are afraid to undergo the operation.

I know he is very nervous on that day but he managed to smile and show how strong he is.

Upon entering the clinic, he was checked first by Doc Weng. By the way, Doc Weng is the OBGyn that delivers Matthew 11 years ago. Checking is done to determine if Kuya Matthew is already “sakat”

Unfortunately, our Kuya is not yet, and out of nervousness, I guess, he said that he didn’t want to have the circumcision. With this, Doc Weng left us and have a final decision.

After several convincing statements and telling him, “Andito na tayo, magba-back out ka pa? Magaantay ka na naman ng isang taon. Ituloy na natin para matapos na.”

He finally agreed.

Kuya Matthew and I in the waiting area

While in the waiting area, Matthew keeps on telling stories about what he watched and read about circumcision. So I also shared my own experience.

The nurse came and asked Kuya Matthew to enter the operating room. He walks calmly and smiles while entering the room. "Wow, ang tapang ni Kuya." as the nurse assist him.

After few minutes, I was called by the nurse to enter the room because our Kuya Matthew needs moral support.

Upon entering the room, he was already lying on the bed and ready for the injection of the anesthetic. He screams while holding my hand too tight as the injection started.

During the procedure, Kuya wanted to be updated on what they are doing to him. He is also telling what he felt.

“Ano po yun, parang may iniipit.”
“Nagupit nap o ba ung balat?”
“Kasi parang may ginugupit na.”

Furthermore, he keeps on asking things allowed after the operation like:

"Mas masakit po pala ugn sa pukpok kaysa sa clinic."

"Pwede po ba akong magcellphone?"

"Okay lang po ba akong maligo? Okay lang po ban a mabasa ung sugat?"

"Paano po ako matutulog? Malikot po ako matulog. Baka madapaan ko."

Doc Weng is laughing and said, “Dami nyang considertions no?”

Since he is not yet “sakat”, he felt pain as Doc Weng pulls the skin. So she added another shot of anesthetic.

After few minutes, the procedure is done.

Now he is recovering fast. After a week, he can stand and walk normally, although the wounds are not yet fully healed. He also managed to take a bath on his own. But I was still there helping him in dressing the wounds.

Time flies so fast that our Kuya Matthew is entering the adolescence stage.

Throw Back Thursday: An Apple A Day...

This photo of Matthew is taken two years ago. Apples, together with grapes, are his favorite fruits which make him healthy with a natural glow.

An Apple a Day

According to saying, "An apple a day, keeps the doctor away." Is this true?

Here are some of the benefits that an apple can give:

Digestive Health
Apples are high in soluble fiber that helps reduce digestive problems like diverticulitis, hemorrhoids ,and even cancer.

Sugar and Cholesterol Level
Apple pectin aids in controlling insulin level by slowly releasing sugar into the bloodstream. Lowering the level of insulin can also decrease the level of cholesterol.

Respiratory
Some research revealed that eating, at least, five apples weekly can reduce the possibility of having a respiratory illness like asthma. In Chinese medicine, apples are claimed to lessen mucus and lubricates the lungs.

Cardiovascular and Kidney
Apples are a good source of potassium which helps in boosting heart health. Furthermore, research showed that adding apples in daily food intake lowers the risk of skin disease while apple cider vinegar aids in inhibiting the formation of kidney stones.

Weight-loss
Apples contain low level of calories (about 50-80), no fat and sodium making it good for weight-loss. In some studies, women that had an apple before meal reduce more weight compared to those who haven't.

Detox
Apples also help in detoxification and cleansing which help in eradicating heavy metals like lead and mercury.

Vitamins
Apples contain high level of vitamin C, A and flavonoids and low phosphorous, iron and calcium content.

With the benefits above, I think apples can really keep a doctor away.

Matthew's Educational Trip 2015 (Last Part): Hansa Hand-Crafted Creations

Hansa Hand-Crafted Creations

In Part 2 of Matthew's Educational Trip, I mentioned that Hansa Hand Crafted Creations helps in saving Mother Nature.

How?

They are recycling plastic bottles to become fiber fill and used as fillers in stuffed toys. From the name itself, the majority of the processes in making stuffed toys are made by hand.

The guy on the top left is the owner of Hansa (I forgot the name)

The stuffed toys are really adorable. Not only kids but parents and teachers were also fascinated with all the things around them. We can take unlimited photos, touching the items are strictly prohibited.

Though Hansa is operating in the Philippines for more than 20 years already, their finished products are for export only.

Here are the photos taken from Hansa Hand Crafted Creations.

Matthew and the toys

In the two bottom photos, Matthew's smile is different. He is actually afraid of the big and black monkeys and the very huge spider on his back.

Who love dogs by the way?

Look at Matthew imitating the dogs pero ang totoo, natakot sya nung nag-bark at gumalaw 'yung isa. Yes, some of the animals are moving and making sounds.

He wants to have a selfie too. lols

Most field trips are not complete when this next destination is not part of the itinerary – shopping. Since we are in Clark, Puregold Duty-Free is the last destination. No pictures this time since I need to leave my camera in the coach.

Matthew taking a nap on our way to Clark

After the long, tiring but fully packed day, I know that Matthew is very happy joining this year's educational trip. He even asked us: “Saan po kaya ang susunod na field trip?”

That's the end of Matthew's education trip 2015.

Matthew's Educational Trip 2015 (Part 2) : Ocean Adventure

After the short visit to San Guillermo Church, we headed directly to Subic Ocean Adventure. We are lucky to arrive in time before the first attraction starts.

Ocean Adventure, Subic Bay Freeport Zone

The first attraction is all about the wildlife. But we were first taught how to make a fire by using a bolo and bamboo. Different animals like white rats, owl, civet cat, hornbill, bear cat, bat, phyton, and, of course, man’s best friend – dog were presented with some information about it.

How to start a fire demo

One funny part of the presentation is when they told everybody that their phyton was missing and it was in a black backpack placed in the audience area. Everyone was surprised and started to panic thinking that it was under their seats.

Bottom: Bear cat and horn bill

Who are familiar with Talentadong Pinoy’s Zion Show? How about the Velasco Brothers of Pilipinas Got Talent? They are the artists of the second attraction. Actually, I was a fan of these two groups. I was hoping to have a photo opportunity with them after the show. Unfortunately, we need to go to the location which is our lunch.

The Velasco Brothers and Zion Show

Balancing acts of Velasco Brothers

By the way, food and bottled drinks, except water, are not allowed to be brought inside though going to Ocean Adventure includes a free lunch.

After having our lunch, we proceed immediately to the third attraction – the Dolphin Show. This part is one of Matthew’s most awaited. He even asked us to go down the platform and have the ride with one of the dolphins.

This is not just an ordinary Dolphin Show. It has a short comedy skit showing the skills and characteristics of the said warm-blooded mammals. One of the students from Matthew’s school had a chance to have a close encounter with the dolphins.

The Dolphins

I uploaded a video on the last part of the show in YouTube. Please bear with the quality of the video since we are seated on the middle part of the stadium.

Last attraction is the Sea Lion Show. Sea lions and seals are commonly identified as one. It identifies differences between the two. Of course, different skills of sea lions were presented.

Simba and Sophie the Sea Lions

They even asked one of the audiences to have a challenge with the Simba, one of the sea lions. Unfortunately, the volunteer got wet when he slid on the floor and fell into the pool. He got free clothes and shoes from their souvenir shop.

I also uploaded a short video in YouTube.

The wet volunteer afraid to touch Simba

After the different attractions, mini-museums were also shown to us.

Ocean Discovery Aquarium
One thing Ocean Adventure wants to impose on minds of every visitor which parents must let their kids understand is to preserve Mother Nature to save and protect lives of different wildlife either in land or water. A simple act of waste segregation can really make a great impact to our environment.

Another best time to visit this place is on summer. I hope that they are going to add other attractions that fits the season. Adult inline skating is another great way to enjoy the summer and learn a new sport, check out Skates HQ to see their reviews for adults.

Here are other random photos in Ocean Adventure:

Speaking of saving the earth, our next stop is in Hansa Hand Crafted Creations located in Clark Field Pampanga which is will share on my next post.

Have you visited Ocean Adventure too?

Fun Games with Parents

Mommy already wrote about Matthew’s School’s Foundation Day. As part of their celebration, the school invited parents to attend and watch the fun games prepared for the kids on the following day. Since I still have two more leaves remaining for the year, I decided to use it and join Matthew.

We are advised to wear the same color what our kids wear. Matthew picks red.

The program started a bit late since some of the school officials were caught in traffic. Yes, traffic is not only happening in the Metro but going to our place too.

The kids were advised to go out of their rooms to officially start the program. Each grade level have their own games prepared by their teachers and where the common parlor games we know.

Preps waiting for their turn

Parlor Games

Time to the kinder and preparatory level. Their game is to paste duck’s bill while being blindfolded. Matthew’s classmate tries it first. And when her teacher asked who wants next, Matthew immediately volunteered. Hindi mahiyain.

Turn for Kinder and Prep

As he approaches the drawing, he peeked from the blindfold and place the bill just like his first classmate does. Silly boy. When I asked why he did it eto ang sabi nya: “Eh di hindi ko po mailalagay ng tama ung tuka ng duck.”

Matthew's Turn

After that game, a Pabitin was prepared for preschoolers too. I can't find Matthew while the game is on but he got two bags of candies after the game.

The Pabitin

After all the grade level do their games, I thought the program was about to end until the emcee asked 20 parents to play the games and I was forced to join. We played Mother Goose where we need to put bandana, carry bilao and umbrella, and place balloon between our legs and race. Our group won. Buti na lang wala akong pic. Hahaha.

Another game was set to parents, Catch My Egg. Unfortunately we placed 2nd.

After that fun-filled activities, here are the prizes Matthew and I got.

Prizes for Matthew and Me

Joining such school activities is one of the things that parent’s shouldn’t miss. Kids were not the only one who enjoyed but parents too.

Have you joined your kid’s school activities too?
