Sometimes,
teaching your kids to talk makes both of you bored if done routinely. In all
aspect, learning needs to be incorporated with fun. Here are some tips on how
to have fun while teaching your kids to talk.
Don’t
allow them to play alone, play with them instead.
When
playing, let them choose the toys and talk what they are doing. This will help
them chance of hearing of words they are using. Try to describe what they are
doing with the toys. Furthermore, this will not only enhance their vocabulary
but will help him develop his decision-making skills.
Read
books with them.
This
does not mean literally reading the entire passage in the books. Just by
looking at the picture and telling them what’s happening, will help them learn
by listening you talking about the pictures. Like the “Winnie the Pooh” book we
had for Matt, we just describe the things happening in the pictures helps him
identify things and happenings like falling down from the tree, sleeping and
eating honey.
Enjoy
Nursery Rhymes.
Try
to sing often those with actions. Also, when singing, try to pause and let them
continue the words. For instance, we just sing “twinkle, twinkle, little….”, then Matt will follow the word “star”.
We used this for the entire song and other nursery rhymes.
Furthermore,
try learning new words thru singing or rhyming. Matt can already identify the
different basic part of the body. We used to teach him the “my toes, my knees,
my shoulder, my head.” with complete actions, of course.
Watch
Educational Videos.
Like
reading books, watch educational videos with them and try to describe what is
happening in the video since toddlers are not yet able to understand what the
characters are saying. There are many videos available for download in the
internet. We like Brainy Baby, Word’s World and Leap Frog instead of letting
him watch regular shows in TV. Watching the said video helps Matt learn the
ABCs, 123s, as well as the different sounds of animals.
Isn’t
it fun to teach kids talk? This will not only make you teach them how to talk
but you will learn and understand how you started talking too.
