How to Make Snow Removal Less Strenuous

Winter is coming and we all know what that means: snow, snow, and more snow. When you live in an area that tends to get heavy snowfall and blizzards that seem like they will never end, you've surely experienced the struggle that is snow removal.

For those who live somewhere where snow removal is taken care of for you, you may not have had to endure the backbreaking process of shoveling snow. However, for many who own a home and have a driveway and sidewalk to plow, it's not uncommon to spend hours outside in the freezing cold, hardly able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Here are some tips for how to handle snow removal this winter.

Strech First

Do you usually stretch before a workout? Stretching helps prepare your buddy for the intense activity you're about to do. It helps loosen your body up so you're less likely to get injured. The same goes for a physical activity like shoveling snow. Stretching before gearing up and shoveling heavy snow is a must. You might not think of it, but you certainly will after you're finished. If you've ever spent hours shoveling without stretching first and felt the aches and pains the next day, you know what we're talking about! Focus on stretching your legs and arms because that's where a lot of the stress of shoveling will be. Your back, too, may feel sore so full-body stretching will help lessen the soreness post-shoveling.

Find a Friend

Two people can cover twice as much ground in the same amount of time. Before you and a friend get started, map out a plan for where each of you will start and which direction you'll each go to maximize efficiency. If you have a snowblower, take turns using the snowblower while the other person shovels so you each aren't doing the same thing the entire time.

Hire a Snow Removal Service

If you've had it with the do-it-yourself approach to snow removal, it's worth it to hire a reliable snow removal company. Snow removal companies have commercial-grade equipment to get the job done much quicker than you can with shovels or a snowblower. The amount of time it'll take to remove the snow may surprise you. Although you will be paying for the service, you will be glad you did when you can simply hop in your car and drive away without first having to spend hours removing snow from your driveway. Snow removal companies are very experienced, as well, so they'll probably do a much better job removing the snow than you could.

No matter how you're tacking snow removal this year, always remember to stay safe and hire a professional if you're not sure you are up for the job. Get to know more about Westside Grounds if you're in the market for a snow removal service.

On Christmas Gift Ideas For Dads and Groupon

This is a sponsored post. All opinions are mine.

Forty days to go before Christmas. You can already feel the cold breeze, especially in early morning.Have you already started buying gifts? If not, here are some of the gift ideas for fellow Dads like me.

Finding best buys in stores and malls can be tiring nowadays since there are lots of individuals, just like everyone else, searching for their Christmas list too. One way to get rid of this scenario is thru online shopping.

One thing that you should take into consideration is the credibility of the site to avoid scams. Groupon is one of the many online shopping store in the web. As early as today, they are giving discounts via Groupon Coupons.

Here are some Christmas gift ideas for Dads like me.

Shirts
This is a “cliché” and the simplest gift that can be given to Dads. Although easy to find, looking for a perfect piece is not simple. You must know what is their preference in terms of color and fit. Polo shirts or simple t-shirt will do. If you are not sure of the color, choose plain white like the one I saw from Hanes.

Shoes
You can choose  a wide variety of shoes when you go to the mall. From casual to formal and even sports shoes will be a great option. If I am to be asked, I prefer sneakers, low or high cut will do. World Balance, Converse or Skechers will be a good option for me.

Gadgets
Since we are already in the last part of the year, most gadgets will have markdown prices. This will be the best time to purchase one.

Leathers

Belts and wallets will be definitely included in the list of possible items to be wrapped as Christmas presents though there are other leather accessories to find in stores.

Wine and Liquors

There are times Dad needs to have a chill, either alone of with company. Giving alcoholic drinks like wine or liquors is quite good. This is can be also stored for a longer time making a great memorable gift.

Most Dads love doing home tasks mechanic or DIYs at home. Wrapping tools for these hobbies will surely put a smile on their face.

How about you, what are your gift suggestions for Dads?

Spending Christmas in Baguio

September is about to end and did you know that it’s only 86 days to go before Christmas. Which means long vacation is here. Speaking of Christmas vacation, Baguio is one of the places most family choose to spend the holidays.

Baguio, also called as the "City of Pines", is the summer capital of the Philippines. Baguio is very popular especially in summer due its unusually cooler weather. But like what I have said, most people also choose Baguio to spend their Christmas vacation.

Going to Baguio is easy either by land or air. If you are from Luzon, you can reach the city via bus. If you are from Visayas and Mindanao regions, search for cheap flights to Manila at Traveloka, then ride a bus to Baguio.

Aside from its really cooler weather, and strawberry picking of course, there are other happenings and places in Baguio that you can visit this Christmas Season.

The Christmas Village

Experience white Christmas at Baguio's Christmas villages.

Take photos, have fun and experience white Christmas with their artificial snow. There are programs every weekend to make your visit very memorable. Truly one of the most raved events of the season.

The Lantern Parade

Aside from Panagbenga festival, Baguio City is also known for the annual Lantern Parade that happens every first day of December.

This parade has became a crowd-drawing event when locals and tourists gather for the ceremonial lighting of city's giant Christmas tree. In this event also, the city launches its calendar of events for the whole festive month.

The Dinosaurs Island Baguio

Dinosaurs Island Baguio is the latest tourist spot in the summer capital. It's main attraction is the moving dinosaurs that's brought back to life using animatronics technology from Italy.

Dinosaurs Island is located inside the Baguio Ecopark along Marcos Highway near the viaduct and after the tunnel.

Christmas-themed Hotels

In Baguio, Hotels are decorated each year to attract visitors and guests.

Aside from the yearly theme, there are lots of activities too like game booths and live entertainments.

Night Market

Experience night life in Baguio with well lighted parks and the night market.

Baguio City is also said to be the Ukay-ukay capital of the Philippines. At the night market, you can buy different products from pre-loved or pre-owned items (ukay), souvenirs and food.

I can't wait to spend my first Christmas in Baguio and experience the festive of the season.

Have you already planned your vacation this holiday season?

Christmas Carolers

Six days to go before one of the most awaited days of the year. Christmas is not complete without carolers stopping in front of your house and sing their songs.

In our place, there are already carolers roaming around the subdivision either in a group or in solo. They bring their own tools to accompany their songs and most are improvised – maracas, tambourine, cymbals, and drums.

A Typical Pinoy Carolers (Photo Source: Stranded Juanderer)

I remember back in our hometown, there are groups like fraternities/sororities and other organizations in our university that will give envelopes which will be collected on Christmas eve after singing in front of the house. They bring their own instruments like guitars, portable keyboards, bass clarinet, and portable drums.

The number of carolers usually increases as Christmas day approaches.

Matthew is very fond of the carolers, but he used to say “Patawad! Balik na lang kaso sa Pasko.” (Sorry for now, just come back on Christmas day.) Haha.

Did you join caroling too?

Christmas Party Theme: 80’s Rock

Last Saturday, during our weekly meeting, it was mentioned that our main office will hold its yearly Christmas Party on the 12th. This year's theme is all about 80’s Rock with Christmas Spirit.

Every attendee is encouraged to have the said outfit. The chosen outfit will have a special prize.

Bon Jovi (Source)

Also, part of the program is a presentation of each division. Aside from 80’s rock, it should have a Christmas theme too. But who are the known 80’s rock bands?

For foreign acts, Bon Jovi, Queen, Guns ‘N Roses, Duran Duran, Prince and Bruce Springsteen, U2, Journey and Metallica are just few of the list.

Of course, hindi papahuli ang Pinoy pagdating sa “Rakrakan”. Who can forget the icons of Pinoy Rockstars like Pepe Smith, Heber, Mike Hanopol ,Lolita Carbon, Gary Granda and Sampaguita?

Juan Dela Cruz Band (Source)

I want to suggest if our division can perform a live band since some of my colleagues can actually play musical instruments like drums, lead guitar, 5 string bass strings and keyboards.

They are going to play Christmas songs that top the charts during the 80’s like Frosty the Snowman, Give Love on Christmas Day, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Jingle Bell Rock, I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus, and Santa Claus is Coming to town.

To complete the presentation, the live band will be accompanied with dance numbers.

I hope this idea will be considered because it will be the only group to present with a live band.

Do you have any idea to share?

Christmas Wishlist: A Short Update

Christmas is fast approaching. Have you already completed your gift list or does someone already granted some of your wishlist? If not, you might be included in the naughty list by your Santa Claus. Just kidding.

There are four items in my Christmas Wishlist for this year. All belongs to electronics and gadgets. Last month, I already had one of the items in the list - a new smart phone. Another item in the list will be slashed down this month - the LED TV. Mommy and I already eyed the unit to be purchased soon but we are still considering some things before buying a new television unit.

First, our Christmas Party will be held next week. Who might know, we can bring home a new TV from the raffle draw. Asa mode lang.

Second, I am waiting for my credit card cut-off so it will appear on my statement on January 2015 and will be paid in February 2015. #smartbuying.

Lastly, we haven't decided where it will be placed; on table-top or wall mount.

One thing for sure about this - the new TV will materialized before the year ends.

Merry Christmas to All!

"We consider Christmas as the encounter,
the great encounter,
the historical encounter,
the decisive encounter,
between God and mankind.
He who has faith knows this truly; let him rejoice."

After series of preparation and cooking for Simple Noche Buena (leche flan, barbecue, mango cheesecake, ham, spaghetti, and macaroni salad – last two dishes made by Mommy), its Christmas Day!
preparing homemade powder sugar

simple noche buena

Before eating, we watched the short fireworks prepared by one of our neighbors. Matt is very afraid of the bombing sounds, saying “putok, booowm!” holding her mom as tight as he could.
This year we celebrate Christmas with our Nanay Maria (grandmother-father side), Mama and Matt’s tita Fe.
L-R: nanay (a bit shy of cam), tita fe, and mama

We woke up around 7 am. Take breakfast from the food prepared for Noche Buena, take a bath and supposed to be went to Barosoain Church in Malolos.

We didn’t make to the church because we stucked up almost 2 hours in traffic on our way to bus terminal (Nanay needs to go back to Nueva Ecija).

We then proceed to SM Marilao to buy toys for Matt as gift promised by his Papa and Mama. Instead of buying educational/computer toy for Matt, which is not yet suitable for his age, we resulted into Junior Mickey Mouse (where he immediately hold and embrace while riding on his stroller saying “Mik-keeeey”) and Easel Learning Board.

Mama planned to treat us for lunch but we refuses because what we are going to eat are the same as what we had in Noche Buena. We bought 2 boxes of pizza instead and eat it while on our way home.
Tiring but fulfilling day.

Crocs Philippines Trivia Promo

I saw Crocs Philippines Promo in Facebook last week. The winner will be receiving a limited edition stationery set. They will be giving away  twenty eight (28) units of the said item as Christmas Give-away.

I followed their fan page and waited on how the contest runs. On the first day, I was not allowed to join since the trivia questions were applicable only to a particular region. When the trivia question is for Central Luzon residents, I immediately searched for the answer on their trivia question.

When I was about to post my answer, I became hesitant since there is only one entry that time and winners should be from the 13th, 23rd, and 33rd respondents giving the correct answer. So I checked the previous trivia questions first if I will still have a chance to win even I am not the respondent number they are looking for. Yes, I will still have the chance to win even I’m 2nd to post my answer.
Announcement of winners: There is only one respondent who got the correct answer (13th person). They also announced that they are going to raffle the other two prices for all the respondents. This gets me excited. Taaadaaa! I was one of the lucky winners after raffling the two other prices.

Price will be claimed at Marquee Mall, Angeles Pampanga.
This is my first to win in online promos.

UPDATE:

Yesterday, December 23, 2011 I went to Marquee Mall to claim my prize. (forgot to take pictures of Crocs Marquee Mall stall)

Christmas Party

Christmas is just around the corner. It is only 13 days to go. Christmas party is one of the traditional ways to celebrate this holiday season. On December 10, we held our party. Highlights of the event were Miss Produ 2011, announcement of parol-making contest (made of recycled materials), games and raffles, and most of all food and drinks.
Parol-Making Contest - I was happy enough, because one of the major prizes goes to our group. Yes, we won the contest! Parols were judged based on uniqueness, creativity and durability. Visit Momayes Diary for the other entries.

I, together with one of my colleagues join the most influential game in television – “PINOY HENYO”.  We lost for  I wasn’t able to guess the word.

Miss Produ 2011 This is the first time to held this type of contest in my 9 years of celebrating Christmas Party in our company. Contestants were not ladies but gentlemen (hahaha). Unfortunately our group doesn’t have a representative. I was chosen to be one of the judges and have the opportunity to ask questions during the Q&A portion.
